Here's a small, and yes stupid, discussion about how to pigeonhole Tear of a doll's music:

François used to call it "Experimental Hardcore". Astrid refused any label, In the beginning we were influenced by Victims Family and No Means No (and played gigs with both). Orhan thinks it's more something linked with King Crimson. My tabla teacher calls it "transcendental thrash".

Some compared it to Mr Bungle. In Japan, some record shop labelled us as Melt Banana-style.

Now it is seems avant garde rock, post-hardcore or avant could be acceptable pigeonholes.

It seems t he term "Math rock" had not been coined yet when we recorded our full length album (1996). That one is indeed a perfect description of the first riff of "Spiders Night" for which we had to count a lot !

New Year day in Yangon 01-01-06

TEAR OF A DOLL has not officially split up !!!
It is just that one of the two François (the guitarist) relocated years ago in Myanmar (Burma) and the other one (the bassplayer) moved to Carcassonne in Southern France. Astrid is still in Paris, producing music under the moniker MISS MAYA.
Orhan is current drumming for NOSFELL.

Recent news:

François aka Naing Naing came back to France for real in 2006.
Miss Maya and François appeared together on stage at a NAING NAING concert in Paris in November this year.
They will start working on new some T.O.D. material in 2007.
